Well-Dressed, Marketing Stress

The latest buzz of the week (or more likely, week-END) is that it’s time for Marketing Final Defense. After a long tedious journey throughout the semester in perfecting the product, analyzing data and coming up with competitive IMC campaigns, students now faced the end of it all: final defense.

And what better way of portraying confidence, smarts, and sophistication than being well-dressed? Wearing a good, complementary outfit highlights sophistication and gives the panelist a good first impression. Also, wearing a corporate ensemble also gives you a huge confidence boost. It’s easy to think of yourself as a hot-shot marketer when you’re dressed as one. For ladies, heels is power while for the boys, it’s ego-soothing to look handsome in a tie and well-fitting long sleeved polo.

BSB spots these students who know the importance of fashion for nerve-wrecking situations.

The Classic Duo

Left: Sean Tan, III BS Management informations system

Right: Therese Adoremos, III BS Management information system

This pair know how to work black and white. Otherwise know to be the safest and most predominant color pattern for corporate presentation, Sean and Therese was able to stand out from the rest by following the fashion principle:

a. Work with your body

The sleek and slim tie works for Sean given his likewise slim physique, the pants fits nicely (not too baggy) and his shiny black shoes gives an impression of length, making Sean look taller than he actually is (the tie works that way too).

For Therese, she polo (slightly loose) is nicely patterned with a more fitting skirt. The outfit is balance and well- proportioned to her body.  The best part of her outfit would be the black pumps, though. Killer heels = killer confidence.

A Red Tie Affair

Yuri Yap, III BS Legal Management, does his group mates (to be featured later on) justice. Why does BSB love his outfit? Black and white is good. Black and white plus red? GREAT. The red tie gives his otherwise normal, bland outfit a good pop of surprise. Semi-slim and blood red, the tie creates an eye-catching effect. What more red is a good color for presentations as it creates the impression of boldness and confidence while keeping it within the limits of sophistication and professionalism.

The Dare Devil Twins

Obviously, there’s a fashion trend with Yuri’s marketing group. Girl mates Fatima Toreja and Veron Requejo, both from II BS Legal Management, sports matching tops with a ruffled accent and black pencil skirts with buttons on the front. Why the skirt works? It’s long and starts at the empire waist, creating an elongating effect that makes these two look taller than they appear. And posture and height adds to a good first impression with the panelist. What more, both shoes work for their outfit in two ways. Fatima’s pointy back shoes gives off an impression of aggression (it’s a good thing) translated to a more outspoken form of confidence while Veron opts for a more demure set of open toe black pump.

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that this pair will be going for the kill with their defense. Their outfits do anyway!

Cool Blue Confidence

While BSB forgot to take the name of the sassy lady in blue, her outfit is still cool and chic. Why? The slightly loose white polo gives off a relaxing vibe with its soft cotton fabric and a sense of friendliness to an otherwise tense environment. Her polo being folded to the elbows also gives off the laid back tone–a refreshing change from the stiff and uptight corporate ensembles. Her blue skirt also has a cute drape effect that adds a touch of elegance to her outfit. And best of all, this girl is the only one who had the sense of pulling off nude pumps, which is such a sight for sore eyes given that everyone’s in black.

Richmond Chion (below), III BS Legal Management also gives off the chill vibe with a dark blue-silver striped polo and matching silver tie. The ensemble speaks of a calm and sense of being collected despite the overwhelming tension arising from defense preparation. And this is a plus because it takes a lot to keep one’s head during academic crisis (case in point, final defense) . . . or at least to look the part anyway!

Spotted!

A new feature of Ateneo fashion ambush–Because BSB just can’t resist these fabulous looks!

Spotted on the rocky walkway between the Sec Field and Schmitt, BSB features a freshman from BS Lifescience:

BSB lost her name (sorry!), but the loose salmon pink top matched with light-colored shorts sporting a brown belt, classic black flats and a cool striped sling bag–not to mention that cute smile (see, even the guy behind her is looking hihi)– would be what we can remember her by. When asked to describe her outfit in one word, this girl merely gave us a laugh and a shrug and said: PINK!

The next fashion fabuloz would be none other than a fourth year BS Comtech represent, Cara Alix, spotted along the red brick road in front of the Faura building.

BSB simply adores the way her jeans fits her legs perfectly that it molds and enhances her figure in all the right curves! The loose gray top with a black sequence-d pocket gives her this ‘chill’ look while the nude-pink-ish flats caps off the look with a girly charm. Her brown bag also just goes well with her overall school-look. Her description of her outfit in one word would be: COMFORTABLE. And with that hair loosely styled over one shoulder? Yes, this girl is both fashionable and comfortable.

Spotted! along the SocSci benches, four year AB Comm (not sure) represent James de los Santos does his course and SOSE proud by rockin’ a fierce look last Friday.

Matching a nice fitting striped top, with the long sleeves folded along the elbows and the hem deliberately tucked in his jeans to give him that  classy, chic look with a bit of a rugged twist. The dark jeans looks fabulously rebellious down to its skinny end, while his socks talk of a daring risk (a good one) though covered by a professional-looking pair of slightly pointed brown shoes.

To cap of the look, literally speaking, James dons a black french beret and of course who could look past the aviators? Describing his look-of-the-day, James chooses the word FRENCH. BSB could only say  “OUI”.

Spotted! along the red brick road, the next fashionable female would be none other than a fourth year BS LM represent!

This LM cutie’s tribal dress compliments her petite physique and the bleached maong vest adds a fun twist with the color clash. Totally unexpected combination, but BSB has to give it a thumbs up. Her group of friends decided the one-word description of her look: FUNKY.

Where are the guys? This next fashion winner makes plain look sexy. Spotted along the Batibot tree beside the pedestrian lane leading to the Cov Courts walkway, third year BS Comtech Raphael Carlos shows us how to look rugged.

Sporting the all-time wardrobe must haves: a good fitting white shirt and matching it with a pair of distressed jeans, Raffy looks too fashionable to be going home. The car keys and id hanging on his jeans’ belt loop  and backpack was the unexpectedly effective accessory to a more ruggedly manly look. And the green watch? Just a funky add-on that gave color to the look.

Describing his look, Raffy goes for SIMPLE.

And BSB rates him as SIMPLY fashionable for having a perfect fitting t-shirt and jeans.

The last fashionable dude that caught BSB’s attention is somehow similar with Raphael, but the AB Management Economics represent rocks a more boyish charm.

Though wearing the same plain white tee, this dude sports an entirely different look from the previous feature with his slim-ended rocker jeans and his cool pair of checkered-laced shoes (wish we had a close up!) The backpack on his shoulders, black G-shock looking watch, and his reverse black baseball cap finishes the look with a totally guy and laid back look.

He describes his look to be SIMPLE (conclusion, so plain white tee = simple for these guys).

But BSB rates him as SIMPLY cool for looking effortlessly and fashionably chill in this week of hell.

TOP 10 Atenean Fashion Trends

You know you’re a Fashionable Atenean if you have any of these…

After the Longchamp craze, the next “it” bag is the Cambridge satchel. The satchel is referenced in the movie The Hangover, where the character Alan Garner says “it’s not a purse, it’s called a satchel”.

Tricia Gosingtian

Graduated BFA: Information Design

Center: Tricia Gosingtian

Tricia Gosingtian is a 22 year old fashion blogger. This Filipino-Chinese was invited by Tumblr to attend the ever popular New York Fashion Week among 23 others and surprisingly enough she was the only Asian invited by the company. She was of course humbled by this experience and quote: “Blogging can get you to so many places nowadays”, which of course can be interpreted literally, figuratively or even digitally. Yet she reiterates that she’s not a fashion setter but just a fashion blogger, taking pictures of what she thinks is fashionable since photography was her real passion. This just means that fashion does not only end in Ateneo but goes beyond college life, it might be life itself. From team fashion blogger of  Bluestylebubble like yourself: Congratulations and we hope you inspire fashionistas out there to follow their passion and find joy and satisfaction with the things they are happy doing.

Tricia Gosingtian won the Loyola Schools Awards for the Arts (LSAA) for Photography, the first Filipino and Asian that got into the top 10 aof Lookbook.nu, the world’s biggest source of fashion inspiration and Manila’s Top Fashion Blogger, among others.

Reese Fernandez-Ruiz

Graduated BS: Management

Reese Fernandez-Ruiz is a co-founder of a company called Rags2Riches a social enterprise that caters to Payatas mothers who made rags and rugs out of patches of cloth and sold for a living. After countless middlemen scammed the mothers by selling to them high priced raw materials from dumpsites, Reese Fernandez-Ruiz helped these mothers by devising a system in getting the raw materials directly and cheaply from the source of origin. Because of this, mothers have earned a living by efficiently harnessing their skills at weaving into creating bags and wine holders. During her talk in Ugnayan (An ADMU-DLSU summit), the concept was simple. Imagine a simple rug being shaped into a wine holder which sells at around Php 700 from a simple Php 30 rug. Some of their handbag collections are designed by famous fashion designers such as Rajo Laurel, Amina Aranaz-Alunan and Oliver Tolentino and are sold worldwide. Fashion therefore can be a means in helping the less fortunate and creating opportunities for poor people. As mentioned by Resse Fernandez-Ruiz, we can start helping by just doing simple things and indeed, this humbling thought has made her reach places most people in her age cannot even go to.

Reese Fernandez-Ruiz is one of the five Young Laureates by Rolex Watches for their Rolex Awards for Enterprise

The Stripes Statement

Contested to be one of the major trends this 2011, stripes have been gracing the pages of magazines all over the globe. But what makes this statement ensemble so loved by everyone is that it is a packaged deal: simple, effortlessly chic, statement piece, and yes, it takes off a few pounds off your body without the help of photoshop.

The stripes design is a classic going way back–in fact, no one knows for sure where stripes (as a ensemble design) originated. But, for sure, once it appeared, it’s here to stay. Stripes never go out of fashion, which is why it is such an investment.

1. It’s simple and effortlessly chic

“Simplicity is beauty” is the late Coco Chanel’s fashion principle, and stripes fits this rule with ease. It can be a casual top–great for chilling with friends–or a professional ensemble if you just toss in a good fitting blazer and heels. From a park outing to a business meeting, all the way to a trip to the beach or a romantic date–the stripes design is compatible with whatever occasion.

So for those days when you don’t have the time to pour all over what you’re going to wear for the day, just take out a striped shirt. You can never go wrong.

2. It’s a statement piece

The 2011 revamp of the stripes design is to make it bolder. This comes in the form of colors. From the mother design of stripes (the black and white), comes a rainbow array to make these stripes stand out. Ditch the two-colored tone and mix and match red, yellow, blue, green, and violet in one colorful top! Or on a more toned down scale, use pastel or neon colors instead of the usual solid, plain hues. It adds more zest to the outfit, giving a more summer refreshing touch

3. It takes off a few pounds and makes you look tall.

Diet is hopeless and exercise is torture. Heels or platforms just hurt and causes ankle fractures. Stripes on the other hand costs less and still manages to making you look thinner and longer. This is a fact supported by scientific research (yes, there is such a research for fashion trends). Horizontal stripes is the most effective in the case of a thick waist while vertical stripes work best for those who could use a few inches in height.

Diagonal stripes helps a lot as well to this figure flattery, particularly because diagonals lead to the center of your body, creating a wraparound effect that makes your midsection look thinner (from the article: 5 fabric patterns that make you look slimmer).

The thickness of the stripes is also important because it’s different for everybody. It’s simply a matter of figuring out which stripes is best for your body built. Otherwise, you’re good to go–whatever the occasion.

Celebrities love it, designers incorporate it to the runway, Ateneans wear it. Here are some true blues making a statement with their stripy ensemble.

Collared Trend

With all the big fashion styles going on among the women, we often forget to notice the subtle and sophisticated fashion styles the men have. BSB looked around Ateneo and spotted the “collared trend”. Definitely, it is not something new but clearly this collared trend has stayed and has become a staple among men’s clothing. Take a peek on how these collared shirts are worn by the Ateneans: the casual way.

Eyes Eyes Baby!

With the onset of the rainy season and the rampant ravages of storms, skies grow dim and gray. Finding people wearing shades go with this weather as well, it’s dim. Yet we found these Ateneans who wear shades and disregarding the fact that it’s dim outside.

Mikko Palon

3 – BS: MGT

Mikko brings his shades every day but only wears it when the sun is up and shining. He mentioned that sometimes, even though there is rain, the sun’s glare is still evident therefore he readies his shades just in case. He considers his shades as both an accessory and a necessity. With the array of shades he has at home, he tries to match his clothes with his shades. He believes that it is a confidence booster and that his shades him look cool.

Julian Torcuator
3 – AB: POS

Blue Style Bubble was lucky enough to see someone bringing his shades even though it was a rainy day and a rainy week. The quirky Julian wears his shades when he feels like it and when the weather permits. He mentioned that just in case the sun’s glare is up and about, he has his shades to keep his eyes safe. He mentioned that it strains the eyes when one is exposed to a certain duration with the sun’s glare

Ans: I had my bangs since I was in grade school. The layering is new though. I wanted to go for short hair, but the stylist said it wouldn’t suit me; so I settled for a simple layering.

Q: How does your hair express you?
Ans: My bangs is like a symbol of my identity. I’ve had it since forever. And if people want to look for me among the crowd, they’d be like: “let’s just look for a girl with bangs. That’ll be Mags”.

Q: How do you do Hair Care? (do you follow any process with regards to taking care of your hair?)
Ans: Nothing really. I just use shampoo 🙂

Q: Any tips for good, healthy looking hair?
Ans: Bring a comb/ brush with you!

I am My Hair – Hair Care

When we dress up, we pick our clothes, our accessories, shoes, bags and what most of us forget is our hair. We may love styling it a lot but we forget to take good care of it in order to make it look beautiful if not flawlessly good. Here are 3 of the simple yet top healthy hair tips.

1. Shampoo

Wash your hair regularly. It cleans up the scalp by removing dirt. Use cold water when washing your hair because it helps lock hair moisture. But yes, there’s such a thing as washing your hair too much.  If you shampoo too much, it removes the natural oils that keep your hair shiny.

Source: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_FQJHIFCCl9k/TTiwCxQKUlI/AAAAAAAAAFo/nOS2wDgoIh4/s1600/shampooing-hair.jpg

2. Condition

We sometimes forget this but shampooing is not enough. We need to condition our hair because it adds moisture and makes your hair softer.

3. Be healthy

If you are not healthy, your hair won’t be healthy as well. So eat, exercise and get enough sleep. In short, have a healthy lifestyle and your hair will be healthy as well.

BONUS.

For those gals with long hair, here’s a hairstyle you can try. For going to school or going out with friends, a pretty braid is never out of style.
